As you may have read elsewhere on the site, I live in Warren, PA, USA, a small town of around 13,000 people at the confluence of the Conewango Creek and Allegheny River. Now that's all well and good, but most people don't have a clue where this is. Furthermore, as I learned from one overseas correspondent, many non-Americans aren't even all that likely to know where Pennsylvania is. So, with the goal of spreading wisdom to all the dark corners of the globe, a while back I added this map for you all to look at (the house icon marks the spot). Since then, I've added even more Warren-related content to the site: TerraServer has some satellite photos. Here are the city, my school, and my street (creepy). For a little more close-up view, look at this panorama photo of downtown and the south side that I took myself from Washington Park. Finally, you can peruse this interactive map for street names and some business locations. I'll bet every single visitor to this site has a product made in Warren. Read what here. Want to visit us? Read what National Geographic has to say about our region and then look at more specific Warren info and pictures here. Our biggest tourist draw is the Allegheny National Forest, the world's largest producer of black cherry wood. Before you leave, check the latest weather observations and look at the forecast. Interested in fishing in the Allegheny? Becuase we have a dam (the largest east of the Mississippi), you'll also want to check the flow and temperature figures, since they can really vary. The interesting and tragic history of the dam is discussed on this local page. Of course, by September I'll be living in Montréal, so I'll have to redo this page then. But that's a project for another day. |
