"This painting was inspired by a Native American tale where the Owl hid the moon from Mankind. I wanted to capture the feeling of flight and the mysterious aspects of the owl. From ancient times the owl has been revered. An owl was a symbol of both the Greek goddess Athena (Goddess of Wisdom) and the Indian goddess Lakshmi (goddess of Wealth). Because it can see in the dark, the owl became linked with prophecy and clairvoyance. Its connection to the moon and the dark also caused it to become linked with feminine mysteries. The Welsh people believed that if a pregnant woman heard an owl then her child would be blessed. Likewise, the Babylonian people would give owl amulets to protect a pregnant woman."
