Variations on a Spiritual Song is based on the well-known spiritual,"Were You There When They Crucified My Lord?" While published texts of this song vary somewhat, the four parts of the Variations are based on the texts,



"Were You There When They:

--Crucified My Lord? (theme - moderato)

--Nailed Him to a Tree? (first variation - a little faster)

--Laid Him in the Tomb? (second variation - mournfully)

--Rose Up from the Grave? (third variation - joyfully)



Intermediate difficulty. About four and a quarter minutes duration. Appropriate for worship, but interesting enough for recitals too.
