PETROGRIPS CATALOG
SANDSTONE HOLDS
To quote from a recent plastic hold company catalog describing their hold texture, "picture hard sandstone on a cool day." Plastic strives for this texture. Only Petrogrips actually has it.
A good sandstone is the perfect climbing medium - very strong, totally polish proof, and with a texture no plastic hold can match. Petrogrip sandstone holds are used on the Treadwall Climbing Machine by Brewer's Ledge. On this device, the same holds are used over and over, thousands of times each day. Plastic holds become polished and gum-up so only very incut holds can be used. Not so with our Sandstone holds. Even with this abusive treatment, our sandstone holds don't polish, so they don't loose their grip.
Our sandstone is obtained from two sources: river sandstone and crushed sandstone, which we tumble in a Ball Mill for 8 hours. The river sandstone tends to have very rounded egg-like shapes, while the milled sandstone has more complex shapes. The natural shape of the original rock serves as a guide so they don't feel "predictable" like plastic holds. You will notice the difference on your wall. Our Sandstone Knobs and Buckets require more thought to use them than plastic holds. This will minimize that "strong and dumb" feeling when you train indoors on non-realistic synthetic holds then climb outdoors.
SANDSTONE BOTS (bolt-on-texture)
These are very tiny rounded holds, only slightly bigger than the washer. Basically they are bolt-on texture. These are far superior to tiny plastic footholds because they don't polish.

SANDSTONE MICROS
These typically offer a nice, square-cut, one quarter inch edge. Perfect for making those realistic 5.8-5.10 edging routes up a vertical wall.

SANDSTONE KNOBS
Sandstone Knobs are surprisingly versatile. On vertical walls, they provide nice rounded edges, incuts, or slopers for 3 or 4 fingers. On overhanging walls, their great texture lets you use them as pinches. Just about any sandstone knob can be used on a 30 degree overhanging wall, while some of the incut ones work on 45 degree walls.

SANDSTONE BUCKETS
These incut training holds for overhanging walls offer
more realistic climbing than most plastic holds as the shapes aren't "predictable."
Just about all of our buckets can be used on a 45 degree overhanging wall,
and the're great for campus training. Some of the more incut ones can be
used on roofs.
SANDSTONE JUGS
Sandstone Jugs are huge holds so you can power up very overhanging walls with ease. We use river sandstone for these so their shapes resemble giant cobblestones. These are great for increasing openhanded grip strength and are only 1/3 the price of an equivalent sized plastic cobble. These work great on really steep walls

SANDSTONE SHROOMS
We take a 6 to 10 inch diameter flat slab of rounded
sandstone and permanently attach a 2 inch thick resin spacer so it forms
an upside down mushroom when bolted underneath a ceiling. These are great
roof holds because you can grab them from any angle. The rounded shapes
make them very comfortable for long workouts. THE ULTIMATE ROOF HOLDS -
nothing else is bigger, more comfortable, or more affordable. We guarantee
these are the coolest roof holds in existence!
