About Us

My name is Sandie Copeland and I live in middle PA about 40 minutes south of Penn State. I have been married for 28 years to Jesse Copeland.

For 15 years I worked as a certified oncology nurse for a couple of oncologists and then as a clinician for a large home care agency in middle PA. In December of 1998 I left my position to stay home with Jesse who had been retired for one year.

My interest in quilting began about 24 years ago and I would usually make log cabin quilts using Eleanor Burns log cabin pattern and tie (knot) the quilts and give them as presents. Recently I have begun some applique-something I said I would never do. Never say never! I like to make quilts that can be completed quickly. I love Yellow Brick Road and have made several to give to auction for our local pregnancy center, a women's abuse shelter, to people in my church diagnosed with serious illnesses and this Christmas Jesse and I worked together to get 3 quilts for some local homeless teenagers.

Jesse started quilting Oct. 1996. He goes nonstop. I gave up counting how many quilts he has made at around 60. He pieces on his Wheeler & Wilson No. 9 treadle machine and he began quilting them on a Singer or New Home electric machine using a walking foot and straight line quilting. He now quilts his quilts on our Gammill machine. He likes to piece his own creations and pieces more intricate quilts than I do. Most of his quilts are given to family, grandchildren and friends or stored in our home. He has also given four beautiful quilts to our local Soroptomist Club to be auctioned off for PRIDE (former Easter Seals).

In 1996 Jesse and I started collecting antique sewing machines and sewing paraphernalia. Our collection almost reached 100 sewing machines but then we sold off a few. We now have a little over 70 which includes 13 black Featherweights and 1 white Featherweight. As with any collection, it was fun doing the collecting but now they have lost their attraction.
