The Dawning of the Green Millennium The Ban – the- Salt & Chlorine Movement On a year-to-year basis things really don’t change that much. However, the two major cover stories on the cover of Water Technology Magazine, February 2000 issue, Michigan Cracks Down on Softener Brine and Chlorine’s Decline. As perhaps everyone is now aware, the Ban-the-Brine movement started in California several years ago – California has always pioneered the ecology movement. Now the reality of the Brine problem has spread to Michigan. The use of brine conditioners will require the use of a holding tank/dry well. Residents that do not disconnect their brine discharge system are faced with "paying hefty daily penalties." Obviously our "Water System"(WS) unit is the best solution to this problem. This message should be spread to concerned home residences as well as ecological groups. Individuals that wish to plan ahead should convert to WS now, and place their softener maintenance money into their retirement accounts. This will benefit them immediately and directly, as well as improving the environment. The other major feature on the cover of Water Technology relates to the chlorine problem. Normally we don’t see too much discussion in water magazines on Trihalomethanes (THM) and their carcinogenic effects. However, Water Technology Magazine reports on the "health risks of chlorination byproducts." One area that our "Water System" exceeds is the reduction of THM, Trihalomethanes in pool and spa water. In fact, E. Starmer was awarded her Masters Thesis from Cranfield University on the effects of magnetic treatment on pool water. (Our units utilized). We all know the dangers and possibility of getting skin cancer from over exposure to the sun, however, few are aware that THMs in chlorinated pool water are also carcinogenic. To take a swim in a chlorinated pool with THMs and then expose your skin to the suns rays really compounds the problem. The Ban-the-Salt and Chlorine movement is spreading. We can save the environment and our health simply by "spreading the word". Hit your back button or click here To Go Back To The Water Page.
